Tsavo West National Park is about 45 minutes from Nagira Tranquility by road, entering through Chala Gate, which is the nearest gate to Taveta and the one we use. Guests often assume Tsavo means a long transfer from Nairobi or Mombasa and a night inside the park; from here it is a morning drive. We arrange the trip rather than sending guests off to work it out at the barrier: the vehicle, the timing and the gate formalities are handled for you, so the day starts when you want it to start. Park fees are set by the Kenya Wildlife Service and change from time to time, so we quote the current rate when we book rather than publishing a figure that may be out of date. Tell us the night before, or when you book your room, and we will put it together.
Most people meet Tsavo as a destination in itself — a long drive, a night inside the park, a package booked months ahead. From Taveta it works differently. The park is close enough that you can leave after breakfast and be back for dinner.
Which gate do you use?
Chala Gate. It is the closest entrance to Taveta and the one we send guests through.
The drive from our gate to that one takes about 45 minutes.
Do you arrange the trip?
Yes. We would rather organise it than hand you directions and hope for the best — the vehicle, the timing and the formalities at the gate are all handled.
It also means the day is built around when you actually want to leave, rather than around someone else's departure slot. Let us know the evening before, or mention it when you book your room, and it will be ready.
What do park fees cost?
Park entry is charged by the Kenya Wildlife Service, not by us, and the rates are revised periodically. We quote the current figure when we arrange the trip.
We have deliberately not printed a number here. A park fee published on a hotel blog and left for two years is worse than no number at all.
Is it worth doing in a day?
That is the point of being this close. A gate 45 minutes away turns a safari from a logistical undertaking into a day out, and you sleep in your own room at the end of it rather than packing up to move on.
Lake Chala sits roughly 12 km from us and Lake Jipe about 6 km, both in the same direction as the park, so some guests combine them. Ask and we will tell you honestly what fits in one day and what does not.
